The wires are woven together to form a different pattern of wire mesh, such as plain weave and twill weave. The most common materials used to make woven wire mesh include carbon steel, galvanized steel, aluminum mesh and stainless steel. Stainless steel wire mesh is particularly useful because it is highly resistant to chemicals, can be used with hot or cold liquids, and is easy to clean. At the same time, the aluminum mesh is lightweight, strong, and has high electrical conductivity and low melting point. It also significantly resists atmospheric corrosion. Other materials such as copper and nickel alloys are suitable for weaving into wire mesh.
